Winding Down the Year

Posted by Marla Sullivan at 5/9/2017

We are nearing the end of another FANTASTIC school year at Williams/Ledger Elementary! Our OWL Scholars are hard at work finishing up end of year testing and preparing for all the fun events that are scheduled for the remaining days this month. Be sure to check out our school calendar and our marquee; all important dates are noted. Events to watch for: WLE Spelling Bee, Battle of the Books (final battle), Field Day, OWLAPALOOZA (our annual behavior celebration), BOGO book fair sponsored by our PTO, WLE's Got Talent (annual talent show) and all our end of year awards ceremonies. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend as many of these events as possible. I want to thank each and every parent for your ongoing support of your child's education at Williams/Ledger. I am proud of all that our OWLS have accomplished this year, and I know that we will continue to celebrate successes all the way into the summer when our STAAR scores are returned to us. Thank you for all you do to ensure that your child is prepared for school each day. Parents are appreciated and valued partners at Williams/Ledger. Wishing you the very BEST as we wrap up the 2016-17 school year. I look forward to our continued journey in 2017-18. Have a JOY filled summer!

School Attendance Information

Posted by Marla Sullivan at 5/9/2017

Did you ever wonder why you are receiving attendance letters? Schools are required to notify parents regarding their child's attendance. Letters are automatically generated based on the number of days/parts of days that are missed. Letters are sent for 5 absences, 10 absences and 15 absences (even if the absences are excused or certified). Letters are also sent for 3 unexcused and 10 unexcused absences. NEW this year: Legislation has been passed that requires schools to hold a meeting with parents after 3 unexcused absences. During this meeting, a 'barrier to attendance' survey is completed and a plan is developed to help prevent future absences. Should additional unexcused absences occur, a 2nd meeting is required after 6 unexcused absences. The plan is reviewed/ revised as needed to ensure that all parties are doing their best to prevent absences. Why all the fuss? Research shows that good school attendance is one of the BEST ways to ensure that your child achieves academically and is prepared to meet the requirements of each grade level. Poor school attendance is the leading cause in academic struggles in students. We appreciate our families who are making their child's education a top priority. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child succeed.

If you have questions about your child's attendance or their academic achievement, please contact your child's teacher, a counselor, or an administrator. We are here to help you!

Please contact our attendance office or your child's teacher anytime your child must miss school. THANK YOU.

  • We are a PBIS (Positive Behavior Support) campus and have implemented the Safe & Civil Schools framework for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Our goal is to celebrate students making positive choices.
  • We prioritize student achievement at all levels and use goal-setting as a tool for attaining high achievement.
  • We value PARENT and COMMUNITY partnerships!
  • We have high expectations of our students and ourselves. We expect our students to give 100% effort every day and we pledge to do the same.
  • We promote high attendance and have a goal of 97% daily attendance.
  • We communicate through monthly campus newsletters, our website and our marquee. Additionally, our teachers communicate through email, Remind 101, and newsletters.
  • As a title I campus, all teachers are required to hold at least one face-to-face conference with all parents. Our goal is to complete this prior to Christmas.
  • We request that parents schedule conferences by calling or emailing ahead of time.
  • We value your input and will ask you to participate in surveys throughout the year.
